4 Laws of Success – Control How You Think

Today I want to talk about several  “laws” that are bandied about with varying degrees of authority.  I think it’s important to realize that there is really nothing new under the sun – literally 🙂  and these

have been around for a long time under different names…

And so without further adieu I give you:To dream by night is to escape your life, to dream by day is to make it happen

The Law of  Cause and Effect
The Law of Correspondence
The Law of Concentration and
The Law of Attraction

The Law of Cause and Effect, for each action… there is a reaction.  Really, when someone compliments you, you react.  Whether you immediately suspect ulterior motives or take the compliment at face value… there is a compliment (the cause) and how you react (the effect).  It’s an undisputed scientific fact.  right?

Now, try applying this to your life.  Try picking one little thing, one daily argument with a loved one, or one daily encounter with a checkout clerk at the quick check, or one normally heart crushing wistful daydream… and make a small change for the better.

Albert Einstein says, the definition of “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”  Change something and change the outcome.

The Law of Correspondence, it says, as within, so without.   I think Brian Tracy describes it best,  ” It says that your outer world is like a mirror that reflects back to you what is going on in your inner world. And this law of correspondence says that everything that happens outside of you corresponds to something that’s going on inside of you. When we say that your outer world is a reflection of your inner world, we mean both at a conscious and at a subconscious level.”

Here’s what that means.  If you can’t imagine your success, you won’t have it.  PERIOD.  Even if you start to have some success, you will sabotage yourself, simply because inside you don’t believe in it.   Think about it.

I know someone who started a house cleaning business, and she was doing great when she had 1 house to clean a week… As soon as she started getting calls asking for quotes, she started to make it more and more difficult for herself to go out and give quotes… explaining that she “had too much to do during the day to drive all of the way out there to give a quote.”   She didn’t believe in her success and as a result, sabotaged it.

The Law of Concentration states that whatever you dwell upon grows and expands in your life.  This is a double edged sword… if you concentrate on the things that you fear the most, then your life will be dominated by fear.  Alternatively, if you think about the things that your goals the the steps to accomplish those goals, then your life will be dominated by that and you will find yourself moving towards your goals.

A note on fear.  it sucks.   it is soul crushing.  and. everyone is afraid.  Some people just choose to concentrate on more positive things.

So, the law of concentration tells me… if I want to be an parent, person, neighbor, softball mom, friend, sister, I need to concentrate on all of the things that will make me awesome.  Instead of looking at the doors that are closed behind me… and looking at how far away my ultimate goals lay…  I concentrate on this moment filled with opportunity and I take measurable positive steps towards my goal.

The Law of Attraction.  I’m not sure, why but this particular law has gotten a bad rap.   It seems like people think they can chant over and over … I want to win a million dollars and the law of attraction is supposed to deliver a million dollars.  That is NOT what I’m saying.  Again, I will go to Brian Tracy, a respected Business and Success Coach,  “the law of attraction says that you are a living magnet. It says that your thoughts create a force field of energy that radiates out from you and attracts back into your life people and circumstances in harmony with them. Any thought you have, combined with an emotion, positive or negative, radiates out from you and attracts back into your life the people, circumstances, ideas and opportunities consistent with it.”

This law says that if you keep a clear idea in your mind of your desired goal, like to become wealthy, and you can hold that idea on a continual basis, then you will inevitably draw the resources towards you that you will need in order to reach your goals.  It is a fact, that every self made successful person of wealth has become wealthy or successful by holding the idea of it in their mind long enough and hard enough until they drew the resources they need to accomplish it. It’s as if they have a “knowing” they have a certainty of their goal.

This does not mean that they did not take action steps towards their goal… it does not mean they sat on the couch wishing… because knowing and wishing are two different things.

Wishing is more like concentrating on what you don’t have.  If you are concentrating in a way that is based on what you don’t have… then based on this law, you will be drawing more resources of that nature.

Herein lies the rub.

None of these laws are concerned with good or bad.  None of these laws have any judging mechanism.

They simply exist.

They exist whether you are concentrating on using them specifically, or just living your life minding your own business.

Prove it to yourself and talk to people.

Just ask a person that always seems to be happy, “why are you always happy?”

They may tell you that they enjoy their mornings and love the weather and are thankful …

Ask a person that is miserable, “why are you always miserable?”

They may tell you that they hate their job, are sinking under their bills, wish they had a new car, can’t stand looking in the mirror

Do you see?  Do you think the people that are happy always loves their job and have no bills?  Probably not.  However, they are choosing to concentrate on happiness, thankfulness, abundance and as a result their life is filled with it.

In a state of happiness and abundance people recognize more opportunities as they arrive and tend to appreciate them and take advantage of them. Miserable people, usually don’t.

An offer of a small bit of overtime, might be viewed by the happy person as a little more abundance and they will take advantage of the opportunity to move closer to their financial goal… where as the miserable person might view it as too little to take a dent out of their bills and as a result, ignore the opportunity.

On an amazingly happy note. Today is a new day.  This moment.  This very moment we all have a choice …. we can decide to pay attention to how we think and concentrate on happiness, abundance and ultimate purpose!

As a work in progress, when we recognize we are thinking negatively, all we have to do it flip it around.

If you hate your job, then instead of steaming about how much you hate your job, think about your perfect job.  Really… take a few seconds to daydream about your perfect job. What the office would look like, what your car would look like, what your customers would look like, how they would talk to you, how your boss would talk to you…

We are the artists of our moments, we can choose to paint them full of color or leave them blank.

Decide.

Make Today Amazing
