This phrase has stuck in my head since I read it. You are NEVER going to believe where I read it... On the description of a 12 pack of beer! I know, right!?! Yesterday, I was at my local Bottle King picking up some adult beverages for the barbecue I'm hosting today.
In case you are unacquainted with "Bottle King" let me explain; it's
basically a supermarket of adult beverages, aisles and aisles of wines, champagnes and other large bottled drinks... with a long fully stocked wall of what I'd call hard liquor's and cordials... then... the beer. It seems like an acre of refrigerators with colorful almost tropical islands of stacked cardboard cases....of beer
I enjoy my occasionally jaunts to Bottle King because ... well... all of the bottles and packaging are incredibly creative and many are very enticing.
Over the winter, I tried a wine by Cupcake (that word immediately caught my attention) and than further kept it with the type of wine, which was NOT Merlot... or Pinot Noir... but... Red Velvet! 🙂 Oh yes, I was hooked... and by hooked I mean, I bought 1 bottle, (I'm not much of a drinker)
Now, back to my most recent trip. The beer islands are always enchanting and I love the colors and almost cavalier way that brewery's entice me with whimsical pictures and stories... yesterday I purchased "River Horse" ... because of the story, and it is as follows:
Our Story -
You don't have to be in a dead end job to feel like you aren't going anywhere. That's the way we felt before River Horse. We were finance geeks living in a world without soul. Grinding it out everyday for a fee, wearing suits and kissing butt.
Then this brewery chose us...she forced us to ask ourselves, "Is this desk job really how I pictured my life?" We answered that questions by taking over River Horse in 2007 and have not looked back. We may not end up as the greatest success story on earth, but at least we had the balls to try. Sometimes, for better or worse, your dreams get the best of you.
Just remember, it's a big world out there and cubicles don't have doors, so you can walk out anytime. Come see us when you can. We are located in Lambertville, NJ on the banks of the Delaware. Thanks for supporting the cause. Hope you enjoy the beer...
-Glenn and Chris
And so... I am encouraged by the story. I like that they are reminding me that it's a big world out there and cubicles don't have doors... and while I may not necessarily choose to walk out right now... should a brewery choose me... I'm am encouraged to give it a listen... and make a decision.
HEY! It's scary. Change is scary. I believe that it's so scary that our fight/flight instinct kicks in and immediately starts bombarding us with all of the reason why we SHOULDN'T even try... and I've said it before and I'll say it again... fight/flight is great if you're being chased by a tiger... not so great when you are taking steps to change your life.
Each moment we have a choice.
Make today ridiculously amazing!
